What is StartDev?
StartDev is a website offering online courses in computer programming specifically designed for beginners. StartDev allows people from different locations to attend courses in what's known as virtual classrooms, right from the comfort of their own home or office. All that's required is a PC and high speed Internet access.

Each full course typically consist of 8 to 10 lessons presented over a period of one month. Courses are led by professional instructors and are delivered to your computer over the Internet in live presentations and Q&As. The courses are supplemented with additional tools to enhance the learning experience, things like course schedules, assignments, progress quizzes, discussion boards, software development tools, code examples and lots more.

Who is this for?
If you have never programmed before, or if you have some general understanding and would like to improve it, these courses are right for you. No prior experience in computer programming is required!

Don't worry; a step-by-step guide will also be provided showing you how to install the software development tools necessary to code and build your programs. All such development software will be provided free of charge.

How does this all work?
1. You will first need to register for a course.
2. Once registered you will be provided access to the course website, i.e. the course virtual classroom.
3. All registered attendees of the course will have access to the same course website allowing attendees to collaborate online as they learn.
4. On the course website you will find all the information required to attend the course and to participate in it. Things like:

A detailed schedule of when each course lesson will be presented.
Details on how to join live presentations during each lesson. Video, slides and audio will be streamed to your PC during each lesson.
Details on how to participate in live Q&As.
Details on how to obtain software development tools from Microsoft, free of charge, in order to take part in the course hands-on exercises, to solve assignments and to try out code examples.
A step by step guide on how to install the software development tools will also be provided.
Details on how to access assignments which will help you reinforce what you have learned during the lessons, and how to access answers to such assignments once they have been published.
Details on how to take quizzes after each lesson, which strictly speaking you don't have to take but if you do they'll help you enhance your understanding of the material.

And lots more.

Optional:

See: Course Details.

When do courses start?
Courses are typically offered each month, on a month by month basis. At the time of your registration you will be able to choose the course you wish to attend and when you wish to start. Usually each course lessons is presented twice, each on a different day and during a different time period; typically either at noon, in the late afternoon or in the evening. This allows attendees to take part without worrying about conflicts with their school, job or other responsibilities. Access to the course website (virtual classroom) is available 24/7.

How much do courses cost?
Each course costs only $75. You get 8 to 10 lessons presented over a period of one month and 24/7 hour access to the course website and virtual classroom. Unlike with other courses which compress the same amount of material into just a couple of days the StartDev schedule has been specifically designed to help those new to computer programming maximize their learning experience. You also get free software development tools and step-by-step instructions on how to install and use them.
